DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown in Rockland County: What to Know First

DuraFlex chimney cap and crown work in Rockland County runs $340-$1,100 for most homes we see, with cap replacement landing between $340 and $680 and a full crown rebuild starting around $800. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a factory rep, which means we choose the right fix for your flue, not the one that moves inventory. Most jobs take one visit, cameras before and after, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing before we leave the driveway. If you own a DuraFlex liner or cap and something’s leaking, rusting, or sitting crooked, call (845) 599-0832 and Wendell or one of his crew will answer.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Rusted cap bases on older DuraFlex stainless caps. The mesh and lid hold up well, but the base collar on caps installed 10 to 15 years ago is usually the first part to go in Rockland County. Our winters salt the air and the rain comes sideways off the Hudson, so that collar sits damp for months. We replace the cap with a fresh DuraFlex unit or a quality aftermarket match, and we always ask one question first: is the liner underneath worth saving? If not, the cap is the last thing we’d sell you.
  • Cracked crowns from freeze-thaw cycles. Rockland County swings from single digits to 40 degrees multiple times each winter. A standard mortar crown absorbs water, freezes, and cracks wide open. On DuraFlex homes we see this all the time: the liner is fine, but the crown around it is failing and water is following the outside of the flue down into the chase. We rebuild crowns with a proper crown coat system that flexes instead of cracking.
  • Chase-top pan failures on factory-built fireplaces. DuraFlex liners often run inside prefab chimney chases, and the chase-top pan is the flat metal lid that should be shedding water. When it rusts through at the seams, water drops straight onto the liner insulation and the firebox. We see this most with older galvanized pans in Stony Point and Haverstraw, where the river air is unkind to sheet metal. The fix is a fabricated stainless pan and a properly fitted cap.
  • Wind-driven rain through standard caps. DuraFlex’s standard caps are good pieces, but they’re designed for average weather. The gusts that come off the Palisades in Nyack and Piermont will drive rain right through the mesh and down the flue. We often swap a standard cap for a high-wind or multi-flue cap with a solid top and stronger bracing. The difference is immediate, and it saves the damper and firebox from chronic rust.
  • Improperly sized replacements from big-box stores. The most common mistake we fix is a homeowner who bought a “universal” cap that doesn’t fit the flue tile or the liner collar. Universal usually means it fits nothing well. A loose cap rattles, leaks, and lets critters in. On a DuraFlex setup, the cap has to clamp or fasten to the liner top correctly, or it’s worthless. We measure on site and install a cap that stays put.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Process

  1. 1
Call and talk to a person. You call (845) 599-0832, and Wendell or someone from the crew answers. No phone tree. You describe what you’re seeing; we’ll ask about the age of the chimney, the last sweeping, and whether you’ve noticed water in the firebox.
  2. 2
Inspection with a camera. We don’t sell anything from the ground. We run a camera up the flue and put eyes on the liner, the crown, the cap, and the chase. You’ll see the footage yourself, so there’s no mystery about what’s actually wrong.
  3. 3
Plain-English verdict. We’ll tell you what’s failing, what can wait, and what can’t. If the cap is rusted but the liner is sound, we’ll say so. If the crown is cracked but the flue is dry, we’ll probably tell you to budget it but not panic. “If it doesn’t need doing, I’ll tell you that too.”
  4. 4
The work. We use DuraFlex parts where they’re the right call, and quality aftermarket parts when they do the same job for less. If the liner needs a patch or a rebuild, we do it with materials we’d put in our own homes. No mystery boxes, no back-of-truck specials.
  5. 5
Test and document. After the cap or crown is done, we re-run the camera, check the draft, and show you the after footage next to the before. You’ll see the difference.
  6. 6
The 90-Day Done Right Promise. Before we leave, you get the guarantee in writing. If something’s not right, one call brings us back. No charge, no argument.

What DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Rockland County

Here’s the honest math from jobs we’ve done across the county:

  • Standard cap replacement (DuraFlex or equivalent): $340-$680 installed, depending on flue size and roof access.
  • Multi-flue cap: $520-$1,100 when two or three flues share one crown.
  • Custom cap for odd-sized or decorative flues: $600-$1,000, because a proper fit matters more than a stock part.
  • Crown repair (minor cracks, patching): $180-$400.
  • Full crown rebuild with flexible crown coat: $800-$1,400, depending on how much demolition the old mortar requires.

What moves the price is roof pitch, chimney height, whether the old crown has to be jackhammered off, and whether the liner underneath is still healthy. You’ll get the exact number before we start, and the number on the phone is the number on the invoice. Estimates are free. Call (845) 599-0832.

Why Rockland County Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for DuraFlex Work

Wendell Pike started Top Hat Chimney in 1999, and he’s been driving these roads ever since: Nyack, Pearl River, Suffern, New City, Stony Point. He’s not a franchise that rotated in last spring, and he’s not a salesman with a script. He learned the trade at Palomar College outside San Diego, where a shop instructor told him the job was mostly patience and a decent flashlight, and that turned out to be about right. These days, if you ask anyone on your street about their chimney, odds are good they’ve called us or know someone who has. We also work with HeatShield and Gelco products when those are the right fit, so you’re getting a straight recommendation, not a brand pitch. Every job gets the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing, seniors and veterans always save 10%, and there’s no trip charge inside the county. You can verify our license, our address, and our name. We’re not hard to find.
